What is chords in music theory? 97.105.132.250 (talk) 20:16, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

two or three notes?[change source]

I am not a musician, but it seems to me that more sources require three notes than allow two. Currently, our article gives priority to three. The English Wikipedia goes into some length, discussing "common chord" and "interval" but basically sticking with three notes as a requirement. The German Wik waffles, the French Wik says three (contrasted with interval for two), the Italian Wik says three, Merriam-Webster's online says three, the U. of Edinburgh's Fundamentals of Music Theory (implicitly) says three, and the online OED says three and rarely two. Should we change our priority? Kdammers (talk) 21:20, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
