Spessart

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spessart is a region in Gernany, about 55 kilometres (34 mi) southeast of Frankfurt am Main. It is about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Würzburg. It contains the largest mixed forest in Germany. Most of it is hilly plains, but there are also some mountains. The region is split between Bavaria and Hesse. Many of the German fairy tales mention the Spessart. Snow White takes place in Lohr am Main, in the Spessart. The name is a contraction of Specht (woodpecker) and -hart (for forest)
